24 Hours | 12,000 Boards | Unlimited Courage

As we celebrate the one year anniversary of Breaking Barriers, we commemorate the bravery of kids and families fighting illnesses everyday. We believe that each of the 12,120 boards broken throughout the 24 hours represented the physical or medical challenges that sick kids live with every day.

Your patronage truly makes a difference in the lives of the children and families we serve - helping to heal their spirits and change lives one smile at a time. On behalf of all of us at enCourage Kids, thank you for your support.

We invite you to please view the exhibit from the 2017 event in Times Square, which showcases how Leif to set a new world record for the number of wooden boards broken in a 24-hour period. You can also find more information at www.encourage-kids.org/breakingbarriers.

enCourage Kids Foundation encourages all kids facing health challenges to lead their most awesome lives by creating environments and experiences that help them through each step of their medical journey. With their needs in mind, we have developed unique, family-centered programs that use entertainment and technology to make hospital visits a little less frightening and have created exciting family outings that make everyday life, a little more fun. enCourage Kids programming benefits more than 400,000 kids and their families each year.

Our programming reaches kids facing a variety of health issues – from those receiving chemo treatments in a clinic to those who live with a chronic illness that may not be visible. What they all have in common is that they deserve the same opportunities to laugh, to play, and to have fun – whether they are being treated in the hospital or living with their struggles at home.

On Thursday, May 11, 2017 enCourage Kids Foundation, along with Ripley's Believe It or Not! witnessed martial artist and current world record holder Leif Becker's successful attempt to set a new world record for the number of wooden boards broken in a 24-hour period. With a total of 12,120 boards broken, Leif fulfilled his goal of setting the world record and bringing awareness to enCourage Kids and the challenges sick children face.

"Breaking Barriers has always been more then breaking boards; more than World Records. Breaking Barriers has been brought together to recognize and bring voice to the challenges children face on a daily basis. It is a creative application that opens the hearts and minds of children and invites them to explore the unlimited possibilities life has to offer when they have the courage to acknowledge and break through the challenges they face on a regular basis." -Leif Becker

Leif Becker is one of the most recognized Martial Artists of breaking in the world today. He travels both nationally and internationally on a regular basis working with martial artists of all ages and abilities.
